Bill Swan, Past Chair, National Asthma Patient Alliance
Bill is the founding chair and continuing member of the National Asthma Patient Alliance as well as a member of the Board of the Asthma Society of Canada. He has recently incorporated Patients in Nova Scotia (PAiNS) as a voice for patients in all aspects of health and health care in the province. Until recently he sat on the board of the Capital District Health Authority, was a Merit Reviewer with Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute in Washington, and Patient Representative on the Scientific Advisory Body on Respiratory and Allergy Therapies for Health Canada.
In May 2015, he was presented with the Patient Advocacy Award by the Asthma Society of Canada and knows exactly where it is.
Bill has conducted and published research on the Canadian health care system and for the past twenty years has run international and national academic health associations. He holds a Master of Health Administration from the University of Ottawa and a Bachelor of Commerce from Saint Mary’s University in Halifax.
Despite all the formal education, he always looks for ways to disruptively challenge the status quo, and once acted as an assistant tiger-wrangler on CBC Television.
